.........To GROW !
The number one job of our nails is to grow and to protect our finger / toe tips.
It takes significantly more effort to chew them, than it does just to leave them alone!
When we stop interfering, let them get on and do their thing, nails just grow.
It takes effort to destroy our nails.
So when we say it’s hard to grow our nails - that is not true.
It is easy for our nails to grow.
What is hard for a nail biter, is to leave them alone.
If your arm was in a plaster cast for weeks and you couldn’t nibble for weeks, then those nails would grow.
Tell yourself the truth - it is easy for my nails to grow, that is their number 1 job. I am getting in the way of my nails doing their primary job.
It is easy to stop doing something that requires effort - you just stop.
What is harder is everything that then comes up - the thoughts, the urges, the loss of our comforter, sense of deprivation, anxiety that something is wrong and the challenge to our identity as a nail biter.
This is where I can help you. We get to work on the root causes of why you bite your nails in the first place and everything that comes up when you stop. All the Thoughts and Feelings. All the mind chatter. All the negativity. All the should and shouldn't.
The solution is not resisting urges or doubling down on willpower. How many times have you already proved that approach does NOT work? You need a new and different approach - one that works.
